东南西北 | The Flower of Answer
Jun. 2020Interactive Installation
东南西北 | The flower of Answer is a nostalgic interactive installation driven by sound input and servo motors. A player can speak out and ask one question towards the flowers, and one of the origamis will start to move and offer an answer to him/her, which is similar to the fortune-telling game played in childhood. The project is aiming at expressing and provoking a kind of nostalgic atmosphere for people to retrospect and share old happiness with my audience.
Motors hide beneath the origamis are controlled by Arduino. With the wires holding by 3D printed element, the origamis can thus move just as the way it is triggered by human hand.
We are currently far away from the nostalgic childhood when happiness is simple and natural. We can easily have fun with the origami. The process of making an “automatic version” of origami is not easy, which is similar to the complicate life of a grown-up, comparing to the original version of the game.
